The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea orders the release of 24 Ukrainian sailors detaine

Sygna welcomes the decision of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea of 25 May 2019 to accept Ukraine's requests for provisional measures against Russia. Jean-Marc Thouvenin had pleaded before this Tribunal that the measures requested were urgent.

This decision responds to the seizure and detention by Russia of three Ukrainian warships and the detention of the 24 sailors on board. Pending the outcome of the case on the merits, Ukraine had requested the Tribunal to order, as provisional measures, the release of its seafarers and seized vessels.

These requests were favourably received by the Tribunal.
