On the 25th of February 2022, Ukraine filed an application with the International Court of Justice, based on the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, denouncing the gross manipulation by Russia of the notion of genocide to justify its illicit aggression of Ukraine. With this application was an urgent request for provisional measures that Russia shall immediately suspend all military operations in the sovereign territory of Ukraine.
The ICJ decided to hold hearings on Ukraine’s request for provisional measures on the 7th and 8th of March, 2022, with the counsel for Ukraine pleading on the first day, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. CET, and the counsel for the Russian Federation scheduled to plead on the second day, at the same time schedule.
Along with the other counsel of Ukraine, our partner Jean-Marc Thouvenin will take the floor to defend Ukraine’s claims and request for the ICJ to order Russia to immediately suspend the brutal and illicit aggression that its military forces has brought upon the people and the territory of Ukraine.
The International Litigation and Arbitration Department of Sygna Partners, headed by Jean-Marc Thouvenin and Luke Vidal, has a specific activity of international legal consultancy and international advice to States in the field of public international law.
