Sygna Partners' International Litigation & Arbitration Department has been nominated for the Trophées Pro Bono 2023 of the Ordre des avocats de Paris for the Team Prize.
Since February 2022, Sygna's International Litigation & Arbitration practice, headed by our partner Jean-Marc Thouvenin, has been assisting Ukraine in its dispute against the Russian Federation. In 2022, together with other lawyers of different nationalities, Sygna filed a pro bono application before the International Court of Justice against Russia, seeking to have the Russian Federation's aggression deemed unlawful.
With this action, the lawyers decided to make their action and defense of the Ukrainian state part of their "pro bono" activity, thus demonstrating their professional commitment to international justice and their solidarity with all the victims of this aggression. They also wanted to reaffirm the importance of international law and its application to all states, including the major powers.
The prize will be awarded on October 19, following an electronic vote between September 04 and September 16, 2023.
We welcome this initiative by the Paris bar to promote the pro bono activities of our profession.
